Mental Health Awareness week this year has been a busy one, and rightly so with us finding ourselves in circumstances like never before! Social Media has been awash with good, practical advice and support for each other with the tag line ‘Be Kind’; but what can we take away from the week that will support us in gaining and maintaining positive mental health all year through and not just for the week of awareness?
After speaking to a friend yesterday who said to me…“I have wanted to follow your well-being advice this week but I just haven’t had the time to watch your videos" I realised that although we are in 'Lockdown' and people (including me) are typically expressing, repeatedly that …'we have more time than ever'…this is not exactly true for a massive percentage of the population…including me!
Homeschooling, working from home, looking after pets, maintaining the house, garden etc, ensuring you and your loved ones are exercising, watching what you eat and drink, shopping in massive queues, looking after yourself physically and mentally, starting new hobbies that you have always promised you would do…the list goes on! Some of the listed activities are essential and cannot be ignored, however, many of them are self imposed and the point is this…even when when we are given more time by the Universe, we continue to fill it with more stuff…more pressure on ourselves.
So here is my advice, my solution to you - take the pressure off yourself, prioritise what you need to do in your weeks to ensure that you and your family are physically and mentally well and abundant… prioritise your happiness! The new thing you said you wanted to do...do it if you have time, but if you haven’t, then it can wait…as can the decorating, car washing and whatever else is putting unnecessary pressure on you…just be!
So, as always, to practice what I preach, here is a day by day, brief summary of my video advice during Mental Health Awareness week (with the links in case you do have time for more detail) to make life a little easier for you all!
You're welcome!
Monday
ACE approach for everyday life - ensure you include these 3 little things into each day to support your daily happiness levels:
Achivement (little chore or something you need to do)
Closeness (connect with another human in some way)
Enjoyment (do something purely because you enjoy it).

Thursday
Positive Thursday - detox your social media feed…get rid of what does’nt make you feel good and fill it with positive, helpful stuff. You are what you read and expose yourself too; if it winds you up, knocks your self esteem or grates on you then get rid! Also, be positive in your conversations, turn negatives into positives and STOP JUDGING OTHERS!

Friday
STOP – Friday was about giving yourself time to process, allowing yourself the downtime you need to recharge your batteries and go again. As I’ve discussed in this blog…we are always go go go so allow yourself those moments to just stop…hop off the treadmill and rest your mind, body and soul! Fill up your cup as a wise lady says to me!
